Ketamine, Psychedelics, and Mental Health: an overview of novel therapies

Ketamine is a highly efficacious treatment for depression and mood disorders. While much excitement exists about this tool, most mental health professionals do not feel comfortable discussing it with their clients due to a lack of knowledge around the complexities of ketamine care.

Psychedelics have received a lot of media attention for their potential mental health purposes in the last few years. This course will consider the current status of compounds including psilocybin and MDMA - specifically the clinical testing, timeline, and efficacy status of each - and how they may play a role in mental healthcare in the years to come.

This event is designed for therapists, psychologists, physicians, and other mental health professionals who want to better understand how ketamine treatment could help their clients, the role they can play as practitioners to ensure the best clinical outcomes for patients seeking relief, and how these emerging psychedelic tools might evolve in the future.

Participants will be able to:

  • Describe how ketamine fits into current treatment plans for depressive disorders

  • Integrate ketamine into existing frameworks for managing clients with depressive disorders

  • Summarize the current understandings of other psychedelics including psilocybin and MDMA as treatments for mental health indications
